At the beginning of every beautiful stained glass piece is a carefully designed stained glass patterns. And while seems logical, many people do not know were to start when looking for a design. Stained glass patterns can be created from just about anything. The only skills that it takes is an eye for things of beauty that you encounter on a daily basis, and a pen and paper. No more skills are needed or required.

A quick and easy option is to go online and purchase stained glass designs from a glass shop that sells pattern books, but this is an expensive option if you are on a budget. You don't need to look far to find inspiration for your next pattern or stained glass piece. Anytime you need some inspiration, simple start taking notice of the different art and shapes that surround you everday and you will start seeing new ideas for your glass patterns. You can even borrow from other arts and try something like knitting or quilting patterns, there are literally dozens of free ones that are available online. Quilt patterns create beautiful stained glass design. You might even have some piece of art that is around your house that you might be able to convert into a stained glass piece. All you need to make sure is that it's easy to trace and it isn't too detailed, then it can be difficult for you. The obvious benefit of this is that you will have your own unique pattern and you can make changes as you want to improve your artwork.

Once you have chosen your subject matter, the next step is to copy it onto tracing paper. If the piece you are tracing has some opacity, a light table will make this job easy. If need be, just get real close to a window so you can trace properly. When you're done tracing the pattern, you'll need to convert your pattern onto a couple of sheets of heavy paper. I would recommend that you save one of them in a folder so you can always access your previously made patterns. You might be able to give back to the art world by making your free stained glass patterns available to other people that are looking for ideas The remaining piece that's left, this will be the one that you will work with wen you begin your glass cutting.

Don't get discouraged if you can't find the right design for the project you have in mind. Just take a stroll around your neighborhood for some inspiration and then create your own. A perfect design that was personally designed by you creates a sense of accomplishment that you just don't get when you use a stock design. It can be a very rewarding experience. Remember that a glass pattern is just as important as all the other thousands of stained glass tools that you have in your workshop.
